Chapter 02 02 The Trainer

Forty-five years in the irons. A lifetime in San Juan Capistrano.

Owner & Head Trainer Patty Garrison

Patty Garrison has guided riders and horses at Rancho Sierra Vista since 1981 — building one of Orange County's most trusted equestrian programs across four decades of dedicated horsemanship in San Juan Capistrano.

From the Del Mar National and the Pacific Coast Horse Show to Blenheim EquiSports and the LAEC Winter Circuit — Patty has prepared horses and riders for every level of Southern California competition. Her training philosophy centers on building genuine partnerships between horse and rider, with patience and precision as the foundation.

"The best horses I've known taught their riders something no clinic ever could. That's what we protect here — that relationship."

Chapter 06 06 Approach

How a day runs at Rancho Sierra Vista.

01

Know your horse

Every program begins with honest assessment — the horse's way of going, its temperament, its physical condition. Training follows from what the horse tells us, not what the calendar demands.

02

Build the ride

Flatwork, gymnastics, conditioning, and course work in thoughtful rotation — never asking more of a horse in a single session than it can carry well and remember positively.

03

Trust the process

We ship to a show when horse and rider are genuinely ready. Ribbons are the natural result of good preparation — not the pressure that drives it.
